Concrete Foundations & Slabs
Residents in the DFW Metroplex can choose from several types of foundations. Both pier and beam and slab foundations are suitable for the soils, weather and geography of the area. However, many homeowners opt for slabs because of their ease of care, lower construction cost, shorter construction time and stability. In contrast, buildings with crawl spaces are more expensive to build and maintain. In addition, they often have problems, such as odor, moisture and pests.
A foundation must be carefully engineered to ensure that the load of the building is properly distributed. At Denton Concrete Works, we analyze the type of soil on your lot, the slope or gradient and the size of building you envision. We build foundations for all types of commercial and residential use, including barns, storage buildings, sheds and workshops. A slab foundation requires minimal site preparation. Concrete is poured on a prepared bed of gravel and/or sand. A moisture barrier is placed between the gravel bed and the concrete. Wire mesh or other strengthening material is embedded in the concrete as it is poured. This adds strength and allows some movement for shrinkage and expansion in response to heat and moisture. Typical slabs are between 4 and 6 inches thick, with thicker corners that form support beams that can be up to 2 feet deep. We work with build teams to ensure that utilities, including sewer, plumbing and electricity, are integrated into slab construction at the appropriate time. We also look at gradient and slope to avoid problems with moisture and runoff. Types of Foundations There are several options for concrete foundations. Shallow foundations support buildings up to five stories high. Deep foundations are suitable for buildings with a large footprint or in areas where shallow soils do not have the bearing capacity to support the structure. There are several types of both shallow and deep foundations. The type selected is based on load, soils, substrate and cost. Residential Foundations If you are building a new home, garage or other outbuilding, a slab foundation provides proper structural support. The experienced, professional team at Denton Concrete Works will come to your property and provide a free consultation to determine what type of foundation is best suited for the unique conditions of your lot. We take your budget into account as we make our recommendations. Commercial Foundations We work with business owners to determine the type of slab and foundation required for each commercial enterprise. Our experience in commercial concrete work includes retail stores, malls, office buildings, parking lots, warehouses and manufacturing centers. We evaluate the way the the slab will be used to ensure it is properly sized and is constructed with materials to support the load. For example, if you require a slab for a loading dock and pavement, it must bear the weight of materials loaded as well as the truck. It must also be constructed to resist wear and tear as heavy equipment passes over it. We ensure that our work is finished to the highest quality. We back our work with a 100% customer satisfaction guarantee. We are licensed and ensured to protect you, your property and our staff.
